In the week of 31 July 2022 in the Anglican Church of Canada's cycle of prayer, we pray for The Rt. Revs Lydia Mamakwa, Larry Beardy, and Morris Fidler, Bishops, and the clergy and people of the Spiritual Ministry of Mishamikoweesh.
From the diocesan website: 'The Indigenous Spiritual Ministry of Mishamikoweesh is one of the Dioceses in the Anglican Church of Canada, which came into existence on June 2014. This is the first Indigenous Diocese and consists of native communities in Northern Ontario and Northern Manitoba.'
Mishamikoweesh: how do I pronounce that? Listen to the Rt Revd Lydia Mamakwa at 2:40 here And click here for a recent (November 2021) sermon by Bp Lydia
Here is an introduction to the beginnings of the diocese, with several videos. It's centred in Kingfisher Lake, in northern Ontario.
Here is more about the origins of the diocese from anglican.ca, with further links.
Here is Pitching Our Tent, a new initiative of the Indigenous Church in northern Manitoba.
Mishamikoweesh is part of the Council of the North, which has a collective newsletter, Contact.
