DESCRIPTION:As divisions in churches and societies seem to pile up on top o
f wars\, environmental crises and economic concerns\, we are drawn to pray
together specifically for peace - in our hearts\, our homes\, our churche
s\, our communities\, our world. May our prayers move us to strive for God
's justice and peace wherever we are.\nYou are invited to join a short and
simple monthly time of prayers for peace with songs from Taizé\, at the
end of the workday on first Thursdays of the month\, at St Philip Oak Bay
(2928 Eastdowne\, at Neil). \nThe service starts at 5.45pm.\nIf you would
like to warm up your voice and/or have some help learning the songs for t
hat evening\, come earlier at 5.15pm for a short run-through of the melodi
es and any non-English pronunciation.\nThe service of singing\, intercesso
ry prayer\, and silence lasts only about half an hour and will end not lat
er than 6.15pm.\nWe will enter and leave in silence. Congregational singin
g will be supported by the piano as needed. As the church is already set u
p for worship\, preparation is minimal: placing the Taizé icon in its sta
nd with a tray for candles by it. St Philip's stained glass provides wonde
rful light and colour to the space\, and you are welcome to light a candle
by the Taizé icon at any time before or during the service. \nThe Taiz
é icon of the Cross is upright\, as usual for depictions of the Crucifixi
on. At this time of prayer\, we don't lay the icon flat. That is a practic
e unique to Taizé\, done there only on Friday evenings. It is sometimes a
dopted elsewhere\, but is not required or universal.\nIf you're interested
in suggesting prayers\, reading or leading prayers or intercessions\, or
contributing cantor parts or instrumental parts to the songs\, please cont
act Anna.\nMore about music:\nEveryone present is part of the choir. Feel
free to sing the melody or printed harmonies from wherever you are sitting
 . If you don't know the songs ar first\, don't worry - we'll repeat them m
any times! The songs for each service will be listed here with link to an
online score\, and added to this Youtube playlist \, for those who would l
ike to listen to or learn them ahead of time. \n5 November: De noche  |
