Just a reminder that if you're planning to attend the 5pm or 7pm sitting of the Agape meal tomorrow, please email Annette with your preferred time and any dietary requirements.
Agape (not related to the English word meaning 'with mouth open'!) comes from the Greek word ἀγάπη (agape), divine love. At the Agape meal we remember Jesus’ Last Supper with his friends, when he gave them, and gives us, the new commandment to love one another. We gather around tables with basic Roman food, e.g. lentil soup, bread, cheese, olives, and wine. Near the end of the meal we say some prayers from the Jewish tradition of Jesus and his disciples.
Following the 7pm sitting (about 8pm for those joining us for the service) we will go upstairs for the liturgical stripping of the altar, in preparation for Good Friday.
