Welcome back to the Wednesday/Thursday Book Study Group: The Fall 2026 Edition!  We’ll be reading and discussing Rowan Williams’ The Way of St. Benedict. Here are some reasons why:

  • Rowan Williams is a former Archbishop of Canterbury and one the world’s most celebrated theologians.
  • The book deals with community ethos, and mission in terms of the modern world.  It is a very hopeful yet realistic take on the difference "doing the simple things well" can make.
  • This book has the potential to encourage our community here at St. Philip as we consider what we're already doing well as well as what needs to change or what needs to be added to the mix going forward.
  • The book will also be challenging to our individual spiritualities, helping us stay committed to prayer, study, and place when we might be tempted to distract ourselves in a myriad of ways or “move on” to more “exciting” endeavours.

There will be two parallel weekly sessions: Wednesday evenings on Zoom, beginning Sept 16th at 7 pm, and Thursday morning post-Eucharist at the church, beginning Sept 17th at 10.30am. Sign up sheets for both, and to buy the book, are on the table in the narthex.
