Spring Cleaning is back!

  • more people in and out throughout the week these days is a wonderful thing but also means there's more dirt
  • good Lenten preparation
  • a way to get involved outside of Sunday morning
  • we want to welcome Allen and Denise to an extra-sparkling St Philip in mid-March. 

General principles: 

* Please bring your own cleaning equipment if you can (e.g. small vacuum, long duster) as the church does not have enough for lots of people to use all at once.  We do have dusters, furniture polish, cleaning agents etc, but feel free to bring your favourites.

* CHECKLISTS will be on the office door notice board.

  • Claim a task before you start by initialling beside it, to avoid doubling up.
  • Take a small task list with you for easy reference
  • Tick off the completed task on the big sheet when finished.

*No need to commit to completing all the tasks in a given area. 

* Tasks can be done by cleaning type rather than by area if preferred.

* If you would prefer to clean on Friday rather than Saturday, you are most welcome to join Anna, who will be in the office 9-4.30.

* Ventilate well and don't mix bleach and ammonia!

* Start up high, finish with floors, so dust doesn't fall onto clean surfaces below. Vacuum last, paying extra attention to edges and corners.

* If you see something that needs doing but isn't on the list, do it! (unless it's in an area earmarked for a specific person to deal with, e.g. offices, music equipment) Then add it to the list and check it off :)

Areas:

  • Front entrance (inside)
  • Main stairwell & corridor
  • Narthex
  • Church
  • Sacristy - Altar Guild
  • Parish office -  Anna
  • Rector’s office stairs
  • Rector’s office
  • Back stairs
  • Kitchen
  • Main Hall (sofa end only)
  • Nursery
  • Youth room
  • Washrooms (x3) & corridor
  • Downstairs office  - Shannon 

Entrance and Narthex

  • Clean light fixtures  
  • Remove cobwebs
  • Wipe down walls/remove scuff marks
  • Dust/wipe woodwork, including baseboards, tops of doors, stairwell ledges, frames etc   
  • Clean and polish entrance doors and hand railings
  • Clean windows and sills (inside).
  • Dust/wipe the glass and reception furniture surfaces.
  • vacuum the lobby areas and floor mats, including low windowsills

Sanctuary

  • Please do not move speakers, cables etc in the musicians’ corner.  
  • Clean light fixtures
  • Dust the walls, windows, windowsills, and window handles – CARE needed
  • Wipe down pews and railings.
  • polish pews
  • Dust/wipe woodwork – baseboards, door frames, ledges
  • Dust piano
  • Dust organ
  • Dust pulpit & altar furniture, rail
  • Clean and clear the altar area.
  • Tidy up Bibles and hymn books 
  • Vacuum pew cushions
  • Mop side entrance floor
  • Sweep/vacuum back stairs
  • Wipe down shelves at top of back stairs
  • Wipe down woodwork at top of back stairs
  • Vacuum carpets

Bathrooms (each)

  •  Clean light fixtures, wall switches, remove cobwebs
  • Clean woodwork (baseboards, door frames etc)
  • Clean windowsills, windows.
  • Clean and disinfect all surfaces
  • Clean and disinfect the toilet/urinal
  • Clean and disinfect the sinks and taps
  • Mop the floors. 

Rector’s Office

  • clean light fixtures and wall switches
  • dust the ceilings and walls
  • Dust and clean the furniture.
  • Wipe clean office equipment.
  • Dust/wipe shelves and cabinets
  • Lift heavy furniture and office appliances and clean under them 
  • dust/wipe woodwork: baseboards, windowsills, window & door frames etc
  • clean window and windowsill
  • Vacuum the floor

Rector's Office stairs:

  • clean light fixtures
  • remove cobwebs
  • dust/wipe woodwork
  • mop stairs

Downstairs Hall (sofa end only)

  • dust ceiling, clean light fictures
  • wipe woodwork: door frames, notice boards, pictures, baseboards, windowsills
  • dust/wipe furniture - vacuum sofas & spot clean as needed
  • move all furniture and clean underneath
  • vacuum/mop floor  

Nursery

  • Clean light fixtures & remove cobwebs
  • wipe/ disinfect the beanbag seats 
  • Dust the windows, window sills and window blinds.
  • Wipe down walls 
  • Sweep/mop/vacuum floors, carpets.

Youth Room (Fireside)

  • Clean light fixtures & remove cobwebs
  • Dust/wipe the woodwork
  • Wipe down walls 
  • wipe/vacuum furniture
  • Vacuum floors, carpets.

Kitchen

  • Deep clean ovens, stoves, toasters, microwaves, and other appliances inside and out 
  • Clean and put away dirty dishes 
  • Clean light fixtures,
  • clean faucets and sinks 
  • Clean the inside of the refrigerator 
  • Restock soap and paper products 
  • Clean and sanitize all countertops and surfaces 
  • Sweep/vacuum and mop the floor, especially corners
