Jesus was grief-stricken when he entered the Temple in Jerusalem and discovered that it was no longer serving its fundamental purpose. The story of Jesus’ “cleansing the temple” invites us to explore the fundamental purpose and function of church. This is a particularly valuable exercise in the face of the COVID upheaval we currently confront.
