Andrea needs urgent surgery. Instead, she is suffering in detention.

Andrea Pedro-Francisco, a 23-year-old asylum seeker from Guatemala, is being held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) while her health rapidly deteriorates.

She has a large ovarian cyst that requires urgent surgery. Without it, she risks serious complications, including infertility or death.

Andrea had surgery scheduled when ICE detained her.

Since then, she has been transferred between facilities and denied proper care. A doctor confirmed she needs surgery but would not operate while she remains detained. She was prescribed medication she never received.

She is now in constant, severe pain.

No one should suffer like this in detention.

Andrea is being held at a facility where people face serious barriers to healthcare.

As an asylum seeker, she should not be punished for seeking safety. Denying urgent medical care in detention puts her life at risk. At least 14 people have died in ICE custody in 2026. At the same time, detention conditions have worsened.

You can write a letter in your own words urging the El Paso ICE Field Office Director:

  • Release Andrea Pedro-Francisco immediately
  • Ensure she receives urgent surgery and medical care
  • Provide all necessary treatment without delay
  • Guarantee access to healthcare for people in detention
