Readings and prayers for Sunday 20 August and the following week: 

We pray for Allen, our rector.  In our diocesan cycle of prayer, we pray for our Bishop, Anna Greenwood-Lee, and for the people of St Matthias, Victoria, and their incumbent, Colleen Lissamer;  in our ecclesiastical province, we pray for the people and clergy of the Territory of the People and their Interim Bishop Jane Alexander, especially as the Territory prepares for an episcopal election in September.

In the Anglican Church of Canada cycle of prayer, we pray for The Rt. Rev Adam Halkett, Bishop of Missinippi and Interim Bishop of Saskatchewan; and the clergy and people of the Diocese of Saskatchewan.

In the Anglican Council of Indigenous People cycle of prayer, we pray for Indigenous Archbishop Chris Harper and for Indigenous Peoples in the Diocese of Huron.

In the Anglican Communion cycle of prayer, we pray for The Church of England.

Collect:   Holy One of Israel, you gather in what has been rejected, restoring what is lost and healing what is wounded. Give us faith to speak out boldly, so that the outcast may be welcomed and all may be blessed. Amen. (Revised Common Lectionary Prayers (2002) alt)

Sunday August 20th 2023 , Pentecost 12 (Proper 20)  Genesis 45:1-15 and Psalm 133  •  Romans 11:1-2a, 29-32  •  Matthew 15: (10-20), 21-28

"After Pentecost during Ordinary Time, there are two sets of Hebrew Bible readings. One set progresses semi-continuously through the Patriarchal/Exodus narratives (Year A), the Monarchial narratives (Year B), and the Prophets (Year C). The other set is related thematically, or is complementary, to the gospel lections for those dates. The Hebrew Bible lections during the rest of the year are thematically related to the gospel lections, which are in turn connected to the seasons of the Church Year.
