Seven Days of Creation

Seven Days of Creation

have you seen the new art work?

Season of Creation Banners

Acrylic Paint, Mixed Media on Canvas

Fall 2024

The children of St Philip Church have been thinking about Creation.  As we mixed paint, cleaned up spilled paint, glued, collaged and glittered, we have imagined God creating EVERYTHING in existence.  We thought about what it was like when the creation story was told around the campfire thousands of years ago when people didn’t have the same understanding of what our planet and universe looked like.  We are thankful for water, food to eat and our favourite animals.  We know what we do to rest and recharge, but we wondered what it looked like when God rested.  We know through all of creation God is shining and speaking to us. He says, ”I love you,” from beginning to end.

The Artists are: Kate, Luke, Malek, Hannah, Elliot, Linnea, Eleanor, William, James, Erin, Naomi, Allan, Shannon

Mar Elias fund raiser results

Mar Elias fund raiser results

Thank you so much to everyone who donated to the Mar Elias fund raiser! I am delighted to report that we have raised $4185 to support our sister church in Rablah, Syria. Thank you for your outpouring of love and prayers.

On Thursday Fr. Allen, Karen and I met with Jordie and family to speak with Fr. Bassam in Syria. Fr. Allen and Fr. Bassam prayed for each other and Fr. Bassam updated us on the situation in Rablah - read all about it via the button below.

While learning about the difficult situation in Rablah, it was encouraging to hear how the Mar Elias community is being moved by the Spirit to provide for God’s children. It is wonderful that St. Philip – though so far away –  has also been moved by the Spirit to support their good works.

We will be sending $2500 to Mar Elias via Western Union next week and then the balance of the money we raised in early March. Dividing the funds into two donations will make the transfers easier and more secure, and also provide some ongoing support for Mar Elias.

Thank you everyone for your prayers and donations to support our sister church in Syria! On Sunday we hope to show some pictures that Fr. Bassam sent.

Neighbourhood leafletting

Neighbourhood leafletting

Saturday, November 30, 2024

Friends, as the beauty of the fall unfolds around us, we're reminded that Advent approaches.  That's a pun on what the word means (the Coming) , which I hope you'll forgive!  Advent and the season of Christmas is a time of anticipation and celebration.  This year we'd like to invite our neighbours to participate in the events we've planned for our parish.  The act of invitation is itself a joyful anticipation of God's presence with us! I look forward to participating with you on Nov 30th at 10 am -- 11:30 as we socialize, enjoy a coffee and stuff a few mailboxes.

-Fr. Allen+

Join other St. Philip Parishioners for an afternoon volunteering at the Mustard Seed

St. Philip is organizing a group to volunteer at the Mustard Seed to help hand out Christmas hampers. Several of us volunteered last year. It’s a lot of fun and very nice to help people especially at Christmas time. You must be at least 16 years old to join. Please invite your family and friends even if they don’t attend church!

We need at least 12 people so please come!!! If we have more than 12 people sign up we can do split shifts so even if you are only able to help for part of the time – no problem!

If you’re able to join, please email Jackie.

Description:

Love spreading holiday joy and making an impact in your community? Join us for our Christmas Hamper distribution event! You'll help distribute hampers filled with food, and holiday treats to individuals in need. It’s a rewarding way to share the season's spirit, connect with others, and make a difference for those facing tough times. This volunteer opportunity is open to individuals aged 16 and older, whether accompanied by a parent or not.
