A message for the National Indigenous Day of Prayer, June 21By Archbishop Christopher Harper on June 17, 2025 Prayer transcends time, language and tradition. In a video greeting for June 21, the National Indigenous Day of Prayer, National Indigenous Anglican Archbishop Chris Harper reflects on this sacred truth, showing how the ancient words of the Sarum Primer continue to live today in the Smudging Ceremony practised in many Indigenous communities across this land. His message invites all to reflect on the deep spiritual threads that connect us—to one another, to creation and to the Creator. Mustard Seed clothing donation request
From the Mustard Seed: Our stock of adult clothing is extremely low, and the greatest need right now is for men’s clothing—specifically pants, shirts, and shoes. While donations of women’s clothing are always appreciated, we are especially in need of gently used and freshly laundered men’s items to support the growing number of requests we’re receiving. If you have any men’s clothing you’re able to donate, or know someone who might, we’d be so grateful. Donations can be dropped off at 625 Queens Ave or brought to St Philip.

Prayer Shawls Ministry
What's a prayer shawl? Modern Prayer Shawls can be knit, crocheted, or quilted. When knit, a pattern of knit 3, purl 3 is used, which becomes the prayer of "Father, Son and Holy Spirit". They are made to support people through illness, loss, trauma, and life transitions, or can be given at times of celebration. Prayer Shawls are a gift, representing our love of God through The Christ. Recipients comment that they feel wrapped in love, they can feel Christ holding them, or they can feel the compassion knit into the shawls. People work on prayer shawls for many reasons. I started knitting to honour my sister after she died. Janet was an artist using many different media, including working with fabrics. She would design and make vests representing the breastplate of the armour of God (Ephesians 6:14). A prayer would be written for the recipient and stitched into the lining of the vest. The last one she made was for a mother who sat in court listening to the testimony about the murder of her son. For Janet herself, there was no one to make a vest. If you know of someone who would benefit from one of these shawls, or if you like would like to join in, either by knitting or helping to cover the cost of a shawl, please speak to me. I knit with the Prayer Shawl group at St. George’s, Cadboro Bay. - Merle Campbell Image: St George's Cadboro Bay For more infomation visit:

Hearing Loop System
The Church has a loop system that may assist people with hearing loss by diminishing background noise. This system has been disconnected for an extended period of time. For people wearing older hearing aids, they would have to turn on the T function. For people with newer hearing aids, they should discuss with an audiologist if their hearing aid can be adjusted internally to benefit from a loop system. If people learn that could in fact benefit, please let me know and arrangements will be made to get the system operational. Island Deaf and Hard of Hearing, a non-profit society, employs two audiologists. For people in financial need, donated hearing aids can be made functional for their hearing needs at no cost. For people that purchase hearing aids through IDHH for the same price as commercial retailers, all funds are used to support the numerous programs offered by the Society. - Karen Van Rheenen |
